I purchased my sportsman etx, now called the 450HO, January 2015 from my local dealer with a promotion which included a KFI 48" plow and 2500lb winch. I use this machine primarily for plowing snow, hauling firewood, navigating my ten acres of property along with various other chores around my house. I currently have 58hrs and approximately 225 miles on my bike and have had zero issues to date. All work has been performed by the dealer at the recommended intervals. This was my first ever quad I had purchased so I was new to everything in the atv world, and still am, but learning. As for as the positives, the etx is reliable, comfortable to ride, awesome fuel mileage, plenty of power, for me anyways being used more for utility purposes than anything. The winch and plow work great plowing my long hilly drive in the winter. As far as negatives I do have a couple, with the smaller tires than the 570 ground clearance is limited somewhat, hinges that hold the lid for the front storage compartment are less than to be desired, and the other which is more about me being picky more than anything, is the gear selector being just above your right knee. It just seems that if it was on the left side that it would be out of the way of your leg and you would not have to remove your hand from the throttle and then back again, not a big deal but jmo. In summary this is a great quad for the suggested price and will do just about anything that you need it to do. If you are more into mudding and trail riding, or looking for tons of power and speed, maybe the 570 or a larger model would suit you better. For the money this quad is hard to beat for what you get.

Great to hear a positive note on something around here! I have had my Sportsman 570 for a year now and use it for the same things you do except for a couple trail rides to here and there and the only issue I have had with it was a melted side cover due to not having any insulation at all installed on it at the factory. It was covered under the 6 month warranty with no questions asked. It has been a great machine and I think in the long run will live up to my 05 sportsman 500. I also have a 2015 Ranger ETX that I have had for a year too with absolutely no issues either. Both have been great machines so far.

Glad you're happy with it. I will say though, that the ETX is not a 450HO. they are different engines. but besides that they are pretty much the same.

As for the gear selector. Since you're supposed to be stopped when changing gears, the gear selector being on the right makes sense. A, it prevents you from being on the throttle when you shift. And B, it allows you to hold the brake while you shift preventing possible gear damage if the machine where to be moving while shifting.

Have you considered upgrading to larger tires? it shouldn't be hard to find some decent take-offs for a reasonable price form a 570.

My wife has had her ETX for a few months and we've taken it to HMT twice. No complaints from a trail machine perspective. She loves the comfort and power upgrade she got, plus it's awesome on gas. It'd be nice if it had a tad more ground clearance, but we don't go out to ride extreme trails, just to get out and have a nice relaxing trip. I don't mind more challenging trails, but she could take them or leave them. She'd just assume ride 50 miles of easy trails over 2 miles of rough, tough riding.

The gearshift is on the right so you have to take your hand off the throttle. So people don't damage the gearbox.

We'very got about 400 miles on our ETX's and they're still doing great! This summer I'm thinking about going to different rims and some bigger tires. Also a 2 inch front end lift. Not too much bigger tires as I don't want to have to change the Clutch or be robbed of power.

Great to hear this for sure! Yeah the ground clearance does suck but it is what it is. Great machine for the money, does everything that I need it to do around my property.

I have owned my ETX for a few months now and have no complaints. The one question I do have for any ETX owners out there is, What RPM range are you typically running? I understand it being a smaller engine it will turn faster than the big guys to make its power but was just curious on some input. I know when I am running about 25mph I am running somewhere in the 5500rpm range. I cannot find much info stating where its peak HP range is and other info. Thank you.

Your right on the money with the speed and rpm for sure. I very seldom get over 20mph with mine and as far as peak rpm with the 325cc motor idk, but that is a good question.

Those RPMs and speed sound about what I remember seeing the one time I actually paid attention while riding my wife's. Although I didn't get above 30, I was pleasantly surprised how peppy it was up to that speed. Not the most low end grunt, but for what it is I was very impressed. On top of that, given where and how we ride she'll never want more. Considering the 13hp gutless wonder she was used to before, the ETX has over double the power and gas mileage seems to be just as good if not better!

Thanks for the input. Mine has now been included into my line up of daily drivers due to our city passing a law allowing ATVs on the streets now. What better than riding my Sportsman to work.
